Sophie Benson is a freelance journalist working with a focus on sustainable fashion, the environment, workers’ rights, and consumerism.

She is the sustainability columnist at Dazed and has written for publications including Vogue, The Guardian, Atoms, The Independent, Raconteur, Vogue Business, and AnOther. She covers a host of topics including legislation and policy, greenwashing, circularity, labour, consumer behaviour, and fashion innovation.

  1. The last item you would give away and why?
That is quite a tough one, but I think it would probably be a 1970s silk lurex dress that was my Nana’s. I have only worn it twice, but it’s one of those things that I know I can wear if something fancy is happening. Obviously, I can never replace it, and it was only after she died that I realized, one, we were the same size, and two, we had really similar styles. It is just a nice connection between me and the younger her.
  1. Favourite place in the world? 
Home, because it is where my cat and boyfriend are. It is where I feel comfortable and at ease.
  1. Silk, cotton, or cashmere and why? (Digital or Physical)
Cotton, because it is cool and easy to care for. If I get something on it (which I will), I can just throw it in the wash.
  1. Best book ever? 
No Logo by Naomi Klein. It was such a game changer in the way I view things and the way it opened my eyes, so yeah.
  1. What is the soundtrack to your life? 
The soundtrack to my life would be erratic. I don’t think I have one playlist… I would have Dolly Parton and then a metal band that I used to listen to when I was younger.

  1. One thing you wish you’d learned at school, or the one thing you learned in school that you couldn’t live without? 
The way clothes are made.

  1. If you had the power to change anything you wanted in the world what would it be? 
Uninvent fast fashion.

Integrity, hopefully that I am quite caring, and that I am hard-working.
