Lily Rose Dambelli is an experienced creative & sales director with 10+ years experience in the fashion and textiles industry. 

The Australian-born designer founded LR.D as a conscious contemporary womenswear label born with a vision to create a wardrobe for the modern woman - one that not only celebrates the woman herself but also the local craftspeople who produce it and the natural environment that provides us with the raw materials. Lily Rose is currently making the move back to Australia and selling some of the beautiful, premium sustainable fabrics that she used in previous collections.

  1. The last item you would give away and why?
Tough! I’m not good at parting with anything, but it would probably be my furniture. I’m very attached to my objects! So much so that I’m moving most of it across the world with me soon because I can’t say goodbye.
  1. Favourite place in the world? –
These questions are hard for me as I never want to pick just one place. It’s a close call between two. A small town on Lake Garda, Italy called Villa. It’s close to where my father is from and where my parents have a small flat. (lucky me). I’ve spent every summer there for the last 7 years and it’s truly a home away from home. Otherwise it’s the place I grew up in Sydney. Sitting at the pool at Bronte beach, with a book and friends and feeling 100% present and content. 
  1. Silk, cotton, or cashmere and why? (Digital or Physical)
If it’s organic, regenerative and/or dead-stock I’d say cotton as its so versatile and easy to wear. I don’t find any other fabrics manage to compare. In saying that, it’s such a problematic plant to grow. It uses so much water and if not organic, pesticides and it’s really over produced. So would never ever use or buy conventional cotton anymore.
  1. Best book ever? 
I read a lot and still don’t have a favourite. I’ll settle for favourite series in recent years being Rachel Cusk’s Outline trilogy. I also loved the seven moons of Maali Almeida. 
  1. What is the soundtrack to your life? 
Ummmm.. Something from the 80’s (Even though I was born in 1990)
  1. A quote to change your life? 
I’ve been learning about the philosophy of Stoicism, and what’s really stuck was the quote “don’t be injured twice” …which I read as if bad things happen, acknowledge it, deal with it, accept it and then move on.  Hard to put into practice though..
  1. One thing you wish you’d learned at school, or the one thing you learned in school that you couldn’t live without? 
It’s very boring but I’m so grateful that I know fractions and percentages etc. Probably the only thing I do remember from Maths classes!!
  1. Who would you want to be stuck in a lift with? 
Someone very calm and funny… 
  1. If you had the power to change anything you wanted in the world what would it be? 
Waste and overproduction. In all industries. And these stem from greed and laziness, so those too while I’m at it!
  1. 3 things your friends would say about you? 
I talk a lot, I get over excited easily, and I really care about the planet. Your 3 favourite fabrics (Digital or Physical): I love a simple cotton poplin in summer, a textured bark crepe silk or tencel, and floaty linen dresses!
